As the input into the production of quality potatoes, MBMG’s specialist in-house seed division is the largest supplier of UK and Internationally-sourced seed potatoes and offers growers a fully integrated seed service. All seed is supplied with full traceability, quality and assurance to growers both at home and abroad.

With an extensive programme geared to the production of high quality seed, MBMG procures from high grade seed growers in Scotland, England, Holland and France. Inspections are carried out throughout the season on many stocks both in the field and in store to ensure we procure the best for our growers.

MBMG also has excellent relationships with the leading seed houses in Scotland, Holland, France and Denmark and other quality seed producing areas. In working with them and carrying out our own extensive multi-centred trials our new variety development programme is aimed at driving forward our customers’ and growers’ businesses and we are the sole marketing agent for a number of their varieties. Over the years these trials have resulted in a number of new varieties including the unique Anya potato, the salad variety Juliette, the crisping variety Sassy and the processing variety Daisy.

MBMG supplies seed in a range of specifications and to ensure optimum results, we also offer growers a range of quality audits. Counted seed can then be supplied to match plant density decisions and field area whilst variety choice will match soil type and agronomy. Seed is supplied in a variety of formats to meet individual requirements from jumbo bags or new wooden boxes for UK growers, to small bags for the export and horticultural markets.

To enable us to have direct contact and develop individual trading relationships with all growers, our seed sales personnel are based throughout the UK at our trading sites in central Scotland, Northern Ireland, South Yorkshire, the West Midlands, Cambridgeshire and Norfolk. In addition, our dedicated team of agronomists offers support and help to seed growers and seed customers to maximise production and profits.

MBMG’s sales personnel are trained in-house. All have also undertaken specialist training at N.I.A.B. Cambridge and some team members have also achieved Potato Basis certification. Ongoing and periodic visits to leading potato centres such as the Central Science Laboratories in Yorkshire, the Scottish Crops Research Institute at Dundee and Cambridge University Farms together with attendance at British Potato Council events, keeps MBMG’s seed team well up to speed with current and future technology..
